I’ve decided to start a community for women and non-binary people who code in Javascript called Javascripthers! I’m excited and I’ve had a good initial response; 200 followers on the Twitter and nearly 30 in the slack so far. I was inspired by this post by Garann Means. She covers a lot of what I’d like to see in this community, but I thought I may as well list out some of the things I’d like to happen that aren’t listed in that post, as well as highlighting some of the most important things in my opinion.

I’ve decided to take part in Devember, as I missed Codevember.

I’ve been thinking a lot about how difficult it is to know how good a coder you are in the beginning stages. For a start we are often blinkered by a false sense of accomplishment (through things like codecademy) or their beginner status gives them a serious case of Dunning-Kruger effect.

One of the best ways to get better at coding is to constantly write code, and in the spirit of that I’ve decided to try and push at least one commit every day. I’ve also decided that writing a blog post can count, as I haven’t been writing on here very often and it’s a great way to keep myself accountable and to document my journey as a coder.
